Florida Department of Education (FDOE) administers the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) initiative for the state. In 2009-2010, Florida received $53 million in funding from the US Department of Education for Florida's 21st CCLC afterschool program. Through a competition, FDOE awarded 131 new and continuing grant projects, supporting 342 afterschool centers in locations throughout the state. The Department estimates that 81,000 students and their families benefitted from participation in these programs.
